Art Gallery
This gallery opened in February of 2007 and is meant to provide a space for sexual harassment and stalking survivors to publish the art they have created, and which has been inspired by their experiences.
The idea behind the gallery was itself inspired by the Survivors Art Foundation, which provides a place for trauma survivors to publish their works.
Janelle
Janelle is a sexual harassment and stalking survivor who has used painting and drawing to explore her feelings about what happened to her. Of these paintings she writes, “I painted white randomly over the squares, and then used oil pastels to draw a scene on the canvas. I don’t want the scenes to be happy, and I need to find ways to get across that the blue figure is trying to harm the red figure. ”
LacuneRainChild
“Art helped give me a release from the harassment and helped calm my mind down when I would be having anxiety. Also, it’s helped me communicate to other people when it came to telling them what happened to me.”

Janelle,
I relate a LOT to the objectification theme in your drawings–but in my case, not only was I objectified by the harassers, but also by everyone who helped them, or was involved in the retaliation and backlash.
And the pictures with all the colored squares seem fractured and off-kilter to me, particularly the second one. Don’t know if you meant to show what can happen to a stalking target’s life with this, but that’s what I see in it.
Thanks for publishing what you have done. Hope to see more!
Lacune,
I really like all of these. Hands are one of my favorite themes, so I particularly love both of your “hand pics.” The picture with the red hand seems very violent to me, almost bloody. “Childhood Ends” also seems violent, at least psychologically–most of her head has been lopped off!
It’s great how art lets us project!!
Hope to see more of your stuff, too.
