Sexually harassed by my doctor–I can’t believe it’s happened to me more than once
Churryl, Port Orchard, Washington
I saw my doctor (P.A.) one day and as he walked behind me, he unsnapped my bra strap. I was shocked. I didn’t know how to respond. I went to the bathroom and fixed by bra. When I came out of the bathroom I told him that I couldn’t believe that he had done that and that he was a freak. He has always been nice to me and very friendly, also to my family. I hug him at times and others at the office and thank them for what they do for me and my family and let them know that they are appreciated. I never told anyone about it. I felt strange and didn’t know what to make of it. He has always made lude/sexual comments and actions with me that weren’t so severe. I just kind of blew them off and told him that he was a freak or I would say “Don’t go there.”
I then had an annual exam and was very sick at the time. He performed the exam and then made sexual comments to me afterward including licking his lips. He even told me that he had waiting for 2 yrs to give me that exam and now I was deathly ill when I had the exam and he had to rush. He said to me that if I ever told anyone that he said that, he would deny it. After that, it took awhile, but I told some friends and family. I didn’t go back. I went to an appointment w/another P.A. He needed to consult my regular doc about my illness. He never returned to my room with a resolution, my regular doctor did. He immediately walked up to me and stood between my legs as I sat on the examining table. He purposely brushed his private area against the inside of my thigh. He looked down my shirt and made sexual comments. I told him not to go there and again told him he was a freak.
I left, went home and told friends and family about the issue. I called an Attorney referral # the next day and advised them of the issue and cried and stated I didn’t know what to do. I had to go to a follow up appointment that day and was going to have to see my regular doc. I was told to keep the appointment, but not to go alone. I went and took my daughter with me and my son showed up at the clinic as well. I was angry that day, very angry. I wanted to just get out of there. A few weeks later I spoke to an Attorney and gave him 6 pages of the incidents described above.
I don’t know what will happen from here. Wish me luck, please! I will stand up for all of us if I am permitted, but I am scared to death. I wish you all luck as well. Thank you for listening.
